That CTR ring stands for Choose the Right
The Primary organization in the LDS Church is for little children from the ages of 3-11. The primary meets every Sunday for lessons and singing time. They also have activities during the year. These activities range from fun games, learning how to ride a bike safely or doing service projects. Each child has a Primary Teacher who teaches them important lessons each week. All of the lessons teach principles of the gospel to help the child come closer to his or her Heavenly Father. Some of the lesson topics include honesty, kindness, prayer and helping your parents. Primary is truly a wonderful organization. When most primary children first start attending, their teacher gives them a CTR ring. The ring is a small adjustable ring with a green shield that has the letters CTR embossed on them. The CTR stands for Choose the Right. All primary children know what that little green ring stands for and what is expected of them.
I remember walking down the hallway at church as my children hustled ahead of me to get a drink at the drinking fountain. The little sister pushed her older sister out of the way to make sure she got there first and then proceeded to take a long drink of water that her older sister thought would never end. Finally in frustration, she put her hands on her hips and proclaimed, “She is not Choosing the Right!” It doesn’t take long for them to catch on. Choosing the Right is something that children and adults need to learn early and practice often.
Now as an adult I watch how I and other adults act. We cut in line while others who have waited patiently roll their eyes at our bad behavior. We don’t always speak kindly of others. Some of the things that get said to other drivers by otherwise kind people is just sad. Adults need as much a reminder as children, sometimes more. So here’s your reminder. “Choose the Right People!” The world is a sad place and bad things happen. The only thing that’s going to make it better is for people who know better to be doing better. Choose the Right! And if you need a little ring on your finger to help you remember than get one. The rest of the world out there will thank you. But, the CTR Ring stands for Choose the Right not “Caught Taking a Rest”. Get busy!
