Irish Wedding Bands Are A Modern Woman’s Choice

Filed under: Jewelry charms — @ 2:00 pm

Jewelry has been used as a mark of wealth since time immemorial. The ancient Greeks and Romans used it as an outward sign of prosperity. The tribes of the world also used it as a mark of status, ever since they first threaded bone through grass.

In the modern world, women are the main purchasers of jewelry, preferring contemporary designer jewelry to display wealth. Fortunately, it isn’t just about that anymore. Jewelry can be used for reasons as simple as complementing an outfit, displaying rank, or the fact that we are married and off the market. The reasons for using it are as numerous as the types of jewelry there are.

Jewelry is as individual as we are, and that’s one of the great things about it. We can buy it for any occasion, and any outfit. It could be for a wedding, a dinner party or an evening out. It adds that finishing touch that’s impossible to equal. It might have sentimental value, it might be brand new.

There’s something about having a shiny thing that appeals to a woman. Women I know are rejecting traditional jewelry in favor of either contemporary designer pieces or themes like Celtic jewelry. The designer pieces are popular because they look great, and weigh less. Celtic designs work because of their historical connections and spirituality. That, and they look great too.

Ask many woman, and they will say that jewelry makes the perfect gift. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune, but it does have to have meaning. It’s the thought that counts, according to my mother, and I believe her.

My engagement ring is of a Celtic design, and I was given an Irish Wedding Band on the day. My husband bought them without any input from me, and got it just right! That means more to me than if he had spend thousands of dollars on them. The fact that he thought about what I wanted and took the time to seek out the one that was just right sealed it for me.

Of course, Irish wedding bands aren’t for everyone, but I would heartily recommend having a look at Celtic jewelry. It’s different, have some lovely designs and appeals to those who look that little deeper. It means something, has a history behind it, and for descendants of Irish immigrants like me, is a link to my homeland.

I love it because of the bold patterns, the links to nature and the infinity of the knots. Most of the Celtic knots are infinity knots, with no beginning or end. That kind of symbolism works for me and adds character to both the ring, and the meaning of it. I’m a romantic at heart, so the idea of an eternal partnership between my husband and I is one that gives me great pleasure.

Celtic art isn’t for everyone, but if you like a bit more meaning to your jewels, or are looking for something with meaning for your partner, you could do a lot worse than Celtic jewelry. It worked on me!
